The lights are going out on gay bookshops

Last week the Bay Citizen reported that A Different Light, the iconic bookshop in San Francisco’s Castro district was closing down. It was, it reported, just another example of how gay book stores in the USA are going to the wall.

So I’ve been reading up on the work of danah boyd, the Social Media Collective and MSRNE as I am heading over to ‘geek out’ with them next week. I am going with open eyes and open ears and have no idea what to expect – but I’m certain it’ll be interesting – and enjoyable.
